The annual charity event, Farm Aid Music and Food Festival is returning to Ruoff Music Center in Noblesville, Indiana on September 23rd. This time, the festival will feature board members Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Margo Price, and Neil Young, along with The Wolfpack, featuring Bob Weir & Wolf Bros. The studded list does not end here as it also includes Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Particle Kid, Allison Russell, Lukas Nelson, and The String Cheese Incident. The ticket sale will begin soon, from July 15th. As this is the third time the charity event will happen in Indiana, the Farm Aid President and Founder Willie Nelson said, “Family farmers have the solutions to some of our toughest challenges.” He continued, “As we face a changing climate, farmers in Indiana, across the Midwest, and all over the country are farming in ways that create more resilient farms to build healthy soils and protect our water.”
Since 2019, this show will mark the first public appearance of Neil Young, as he participated in Farm Aid’s Covid-era streaming show in 2020, however, skipped the in-person events in both 2021 and 2022 due to his fear of the virus. These were also the first Firm Aid events that he had missed since the formation of the annual charity foundation back in 1985. In 2021 Young told the fans of the event, “I don’t want to play until you feel safe, and it is indeed, safe”. He then continued his statement by saying “My soul tells me it would be wrong to risk having anyone die because they wanted to hear music and be with friends…no matter where you are, I am with you. Do what you must, but think it through. We will be back. There is much work to do together.”
The first ever Firm Aid was held at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Illinois. Since then, it has been 38 years and the event has hit stages all over the country, raising more than $70 million to help farmer families. This year it will mark the third time that the Firm Aid will be held in Indiana, following the first 1990 Farm Aid at the Hoosier Dome in Indianapolis, and then for the second time, the 2001 event in Noblesville. This took place just after 18 days of the horrible 9/11 attacks. Expressing his joy, Farm Aid Co-Founder John Mellencamp said, “We are honored and excited to bring the Farm Aid experience back to Indiana.”
