The drummer for the iconic US rock band Foo Fighters, Taylor Hawkins, died on Friday, according to the band. He had reached the age of fifty.

The band addressed in a statement, “The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever, our hearts go out to his wife, children, family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.”

According to the band’s website, the band was set to perform at the Festival Estereo Picnic in Bogotá, Colombia, on Friday, followed by Lollapalooza Brazil on Sunday. The band also revealed on Sunday that it would perform at the Grammy Awards on April 3 in Las Vegas.

The reason for his death was not revealed.

Dave Grohl, the drummer for Nirvana, formed Foo Fighters in 1994.

Hawkins, a Texas native, joined in 1997 after previously serving as the drummer for Alanis Morissette’s band and touring with them in support of their album “The Colour and the Shape,” which was also released in the same year.

Last year, in its first year of eligibility, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Several fans and fellow musicians expressed their grief on social media after learning of his demise.

Tom Morello, the famous singer/songwriter, and political activist wrote on Twitter, “God bless you, Taylor Hawkins. I loved your spirit and your unstoppable rock power. Rest in Peace, my friend.”

“God bless Taylor peace and love to all his family and the band peace and love.” was tweeted by English musician, singer/songwriter Ringo Starr.

The singer Ozzy Osbourne, who is popular for his expertise in the hard rock genre, shed some light on Hawkins’ character by saying that the drummer “was truly a great person and an amazing musician.”

Ozzy Osbourne tweeted, “My heart, my love, and my condolences go out to his wife, his children, his family, his band, and his fans. See you on the other side.”
