American Idol came again with the 20th season on the 27th of February, 2022. Candidates from all over the world came for the audition.

Globally renowned artist Aretha Franklin’s granddaughter Grace Franklin also auditions for the famous singing reality show.

She gave her audition to Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan. Her audition has caused a heated conversation among the judges of the show.

She performed ‘Killing Me Softly’ by Lauren Hill which didn’t completely impress the judges. Judges gave a second chance to sing any other song where Grace pulls out her rendition of the track ‘Ain’t No Way’ by her grandmother.

After the performance, Katy immediately said, ‘I loved your rendition of your grandma’s song’.

This 15-year-old high school girl gave her best shot to qualify for the first round of the audition. But the judge Luke Bryan said, ‘Your runs are really, really great’.

He also added, ‘When you do your runs, they’re really great… very controlled. The only thing I’m feeling is I think if you add command to your moment, it gives you a better chance to make it through some rounds in this competition’.

She didn’t get affirmation from Luke, but Katy loved her performance and saw the potential to go forward, so she gave her a big yes by saying ‘Grace, I think you have stardust and sparkle all over you. You are beautiful and if you’ll trust us, if you’ll listen to us, and you’ll put in the work, I think we can find that next level with you. You’re a yes from me’.

But Lionel Richie said that she needed to go back and come next time with a much better version.

Richie stated ‘You’re 15. You’ve got the family lineage. What we need to put now is time and some work in to get it up to par, OK?’

He also said ‘The age and the voice have to all come together on the same path.’

Apart from Katy, both the judges weren’t agreeing to qualify her as they thought she had more potential and work on her skills.

Katy Perry left the set for not taking her through the Hollywood week.
