Grammy Awards Added 5 New Categories to the Show

The 2027 Grammy Awards are going to add five new categories to the show. This will include the best Asian pop music performance as well. The Asian music industry is also going to be included in the Grammy Awards. J-pop, K-pop, and C-pop recordings will feature in the show. Right now, Asian pop music is getting much attention from the global audience. And it is one of the reasons why it has been included in the Grammy Awards.

There are four new categories announced on Tuesday by the Recording Academy. These are the best traditional pop vocal performance, best Latin song, best R&B collaboration or duo/ group performance, and best traditional folk album. These new additions are generating quite a buzz among the audiences. As of now, it is confirmed that the 69^th Grammy Awards will air on Disney+, ABC, and Hulu on the 7^th February 2027.

The CEO of Recording Academy, Harvey Mason Jr., stated ‘2027 is going to be an amazing year for the Grammy Awards, and one that reflects the extraordinary growth we’re seeing across music’. He even added ‘The changes advanced by our Academy members speak to the breadth of today’s music industry and the many genres, crafts and creators shaping it. We’re excited to see these updates come to life in the year ahead as we celebrate the music people who are driving music forward’. The music industry is growing more with each passing day. Asian pop music has expanded on a large scale in the past few years. That is why it has made its way to the Grammys.

Recording Academy has confirmed that the best Asian pop music performance category was included to recognize the span of Asian pop music. It has now made a global impact, which is impossible to avoid. That is why this specific category has been included in the 2027 Grammy Awards. In addition to that, it is also known that the best traditional pop vocal performance category will be given to performers whose music creations ‘cannot properly be intermingled with present forms of pop music’.

On the other hand, the best Latin song category is added to recognize the songwriters for their works on Latin tracks recorded in Spanish. Along with that, the R&B and folk categories are also going to be affected. The best R&B collaboration or duo/ group performance award will join the best R&B solo performance category.

Just like this, folk music has also experienced a similar kind of change last year. The best folk album has now become the best contemporary folk album. Thus, there are some changes that have been made in the Grammy Awards. There is another new rule in the Grammys, which is that artists are now allowed to submit in the category four times. Hence, the Grammy is going to be a little different this year.
