Halsey showed strength and attitude during her Boston show on Monday night, shutting down a rude audience member after revealing she’d just been through a medical emergency. The singer, who uses both she and they pronouns, told fans she had been rushed to the emergency room hours before stepping on stage for her second night at Boston’s MGM Music Hall.

While speaking to the crowd, one man decided to interrupt her by yelling, “Stop talking and play.” That did not go over well. Halsey did not hesitate to clap back. According to Rolling Stone, she shot back, “You think you’re tough s**t because you’re from Boston? I’m from Jersey, baby. I’ll whoop your a*s.” The crowd erupted as she continued, “My dad’s from Boston, my mom’s from Jersey – that basically makes me a f**king demon. I’m gonna play whatever the f**k I wanna play.”

But she did not stop there. Halsey went on to remind everyone in the room what it took for her to even be there that night. “In case you didn’t hear me correctly, I almost f**king died to be on this stage. I’m going to play whatever the f**k I wanna play.” After the show, she stood by her words. Taking to X, she posted, “I’ve been polite but won’t be caught dead letting a man tell me what I should play in my set. There’s always one.” Her fans quickly backed her up online, praising her for standing her ground and performing through pain. Many called the incident proof of her dedication and toughness, especially given what she has been dealing with in her personal life.

Before the concert on Monday, Halsey had told fans through Instagram Stories that she would spend the night in the hospital after her first Boston show. She revealed she was discharged around 6 a.m. and had barely any rest before getting ready to perform on stage again.

The 31-year-old artist has been open about her ongoing health battles. In 2022, the ‘Without Me’ singer revealed that she was diagnosed with Lupus SLE and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder, which required chemotherapy treatment. Though she did not share details about her latest hospital visit with her fans, her willingness to go on stage so soon after the ER visit shows her passion and love for performing. After getting out of the hospital, Halsey reassured her fans that she was okay, writing that she was “A-Okay” and “ready to rock” her second Boston show.

Despite facing health struggles and disrespect from a heckler, the ‘Colors’ singer turned the moment into something powerful. Her words made it clear that she is not here to take orders, especially from someone trying to talk over her art. Monday night’s show proved again that the musician’s fire runs deeper than fame!
