Alka Yagnik Leaves Behind International Artists like Taylor Swift, BTS and Beyonce, Becoming the Most-Streamed Artist on YouTube

One of the greatest playback singers of Bollywood, Alka Yagnik achieves a historic feat of her career as she becomes YouTube’s most streamed artist, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Yagnik, who reached the peak of her musical career during the 1990s and 2000s, has left behind global artists like Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and BTS to achieve this milestone.

The singer has garnered 15.3 billion streams on YouTube with an average of 42 million streams per day in the year 2022. Her popularity on the video streaming site has received a significant boost in the last two years and has been growing steadily each day, as she has been recorded to have received 16.6 billion streams in 2020 and 17 billion streams in the year 2021.

Apart from Yagnik, three other Indian singers made it to the top five in the list of highest streams, namely, Udit Narayan with 10.8 billion streams, Arijit Singh with 10.7 billion streams, and Kumar Sanu with 9.09 billion streams. All of them have collaborated with Yagnik previously to crunch out superhit numbers. Both Udit Narayan and Kumar Sanu, along with Alka Yagnik, had ruled the Bollywood music scene in the 1990s.

Fans of Bollywood music were elated at the news of the artist leaving behind internationally acclaimed artists. Ranking second to her on the list is the singer Bad Bunny having 14.7 billion streams. Popular artists like BTS won 7.95 billion streams, while BLACKPINK received 7.03 billion. The Weeknd captured the 13th position with 5.7 billion streams, Taylor Swift was on the 26th with 4.33 billion streams while Drake took the 50th spot with 2.9 billion streams.

With over three decades of experience in the music industry, the “The Tip Tip Barsa Paani” singer has over 7000 songs to her credit in several Indian languages, to the end that she was cited as the “queen of playback singing”. The singer is well known for her versatility and has lent her voice to almost all the leading actresses since the 1990s.

The artist has been the recipient of several awards, including two National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the songs “Ghoongat Ki Aad Se” from Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993) and “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). Some of Alka Yagnik’s biggest hits include songs like “Taal Se Taal“, “Hum Tum“, “Pardesi Pardesi”, and the most recent “Agar Tum Saath Ho”.
