Arjit Singh Performs for the First Time after Quitting Playback at Anoushka Shankar’s Kolkata Show

Arijit Singh made his first live appearance in Kolkata days after announcing his decision to step away from playback singing, and the moment quickly turned emotional for his fans in attendance. The singer joined star maestro Anoushka Shankar and percussionist Bickram Ghosh on stage at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, with videos and photos from the evening spreading across social media soon after! As Anoushka welcomed him on stage, the crowd erupted into loud cheers and applause. Arijit appeared visibly moved and admitted he was nervous, thanking the audience for the warm reception before settling into the performance. “I am very nervous. Thank you for having me,” the ‘Tum Hi Ho’ singer said. The trio went on to present Maya BhoraRaati, a classic Bengali track originally sung by Lakshmi Shankar and composed by the late Pandit Ravi Shankar, adding a deeply nostalgic touch to the night.

Apart from the performance, Arijit also shared a personal moment with the audience. He talked about visiting Anoushka at her home and how the two had once worked on composing a song together. For many in the crowd, the performance felt like a heartfelt return, even if only for one night. He also performed a duet with Anoushka on Traces of You, originally byAnoushka and Norah Jones. I want to thank you all for giving me so much of love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey,” the most followed artist on Spotify wrote.

Arijit is also a composer, producer, and instrumentalist who first gained attention on Fame Gurukul in 2005. He made his Hindi film debut in 2011 with ‘PhirMohabbat’ from Murder 2 and rose to massive fame with ‘Tum Hi Ho’ in 2013’s Aashiqui 2. Since then, he has delivered memorable tracks like ‘ChannaMereya’, ‘Agar Tum Saath Ho’, ‘Raabta’, ‘Kesariya’, ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’, ‘TeraYaarHoon Main’, ‘TujheKitnaChahneLage’, and ‘Hum To Tere Hi Liye The’ from Vishal Bhardwaj’s upcoming O Romeo.
