The modern legend of Blues, John Mayer, is loved by global music lovers, and Indians are among the top of them. The Seven-time Grammy Award-winning artist has just performed at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Race Course on Wednesday, and this marks the artist’s debut in the country. The long-awaited performance in the country has finally come to an end.

Best known for his emotive musical compositions, John Mayer offers an emotionally enriched set at the show. This debut concert in India has been initially scheduled for January 22, but it has been postponed due to “unforeseen circumstances”. The humble artist addressed the delay and said, “Mumbai, it’s good to see you! Thank you for waiting a couple of weeks longer, and thank you for making it, I love you.” And that was enough to make the fans go crazy.

The most amusing part of the show was when John gave some heartily compliments to the men in Mumbai, and it was very cheering. He said, “You guys have fantastic haircuts and styles, the flow… I want to run my fingers through them. You are gorgeous. The men in Mumbai… Suddenly I feel like I don’t have anything going on,” and these jokes were enough for the banter.

The best part of the show is the opening acts, where Nagaland-based folk music artist Abdon Mech performed the tracks Aria and Taking My Heart. There was also Tejas, an independent artist who performed Kiss From A Rose and Ruby. The selection of new and rising artists over popular brown faces shows how John caters to new artists.

His set list at the Mahalaxmi Race Course performance featured five of the most engaging songs, namely, ‘Gravity’, ‘Slow Dancing in a Burning Room’, ‘Love On the Weekend’, ‘Waiting on the World to Change’, and lastly, ‘Neon’. The artist entered the stage around 8:30 pm and took over it with his calm and poised aura, along with a charming musical presence.
