Rapper KR$NA has recently opened up about how his song ‘Boom Shaka’ unexpectedly became a part of the student protest. In India, during the months of June and July, a huge student protest took place. Somehow, the song took on this new identity and became a part of the protest. The rapper has no idea how it turned out like this. This viral moment wasn’t planned at all, and that is what surprised the artist.

While talking in the recent interview, the rapper stated, ‘Ye gaanaussethodapehleaayatha, but it just happened since it was already picking up on social media at that time. Meta pe already trending thagaana’. The track was released on 28th April, and right after the release, it got much appreciation from the listeners. But during June and July, the song took a massive shape. It started trending on all social media platforms. ‘Boom Shaka’ exploded as people started making protest videos with it. A large number of videos from Jantar Mantar, the location of the protest, were using this particular song. And it was the moment when the song became massively viral on the internet.

Till now, the song has gotten more than 76 million views on YouTube. This has made it the highest-viewed video of KR$NA. The artist didn’t make the song with such intentions. Fellow Indian rapper Raftaar, who is also a judge of the show ‘Legacy’ along with KR$NA,was also surprised by the outcome. He also compared the track with Michael Jackson’s track ‘Beat It’. This track also got a huge boost after the biopic release of Jackson.

Raftaar has stated, ‘Michael Jackson, Kokahan Patathaki, 2026 meindobara number one ho jaayegadobara ‘Beat It’‘. On the other hand, KR$NAalso said, ‘Basically it’s just (the right) time and place sometimes’. Raftaar also said that rebellion has always been central to hip-hop music. he said, ‘It’s not just against a human being. It’s not only political. It’s probably just about where he or she is in life at the moment and their circumstances. Without rebellion, you will never indulge in the art of rap’.

The whole dynamic of hip-hop music is a lot different from the scenario of West. The rapper said, ‘Rap didn’t come out of rebellion in India. In fact, the first big wave of hip-hop in India was very commercial. Yes, there was an underground movement that we rappers were aware of. But here, the journey of rap has been in reverse, from commercial to the underground.

From this, it can be said that music is a form of art that is intertwined with every situation that can exist. Both rappers, Raftaar and KR$NA, are currently the judges of ‘Legacy’. With this show, they are trying to discover India’s next generation of hip-hop music artists, which is definitely going to grow more in the future.
