Artist spotlight: Sundown Marathon Interview

Sundown Marathon Interview

Q: How do you balance different creative influences within the band when writing or producing music?
Fight to the death!

Well, three of us wanted to be a pop-punk band — one didn’t! In all honesty, we all come from very different musical backgrounds, which actually works in our favour. It helps us create a sound that’s both versatile and unique. We often bounce ideas around and talk through styles, drawing on our varied influences to shape each track collaboratively.

From a production perspective, we’ve been lucky to work with some great studios and producers who bring new ideas into the process. Recently, we’ve really enjoyed working with Joe at Matchbox Studios, who recorded and produced our 2024 EP Inside a Restless Mind, along with some unreleased tracks we’re looking forward to sharing.

Q: What does being part of the Big Condo Records community mean to you as emerging artists?

Big Condo Records brings a ton of positivity and genuine passion to supporting emerging artists. Their help with promotion, feedback, and opportunities like this interview has been refreshing and encouraging. They offer more support than we initially expected — from radio to live gigs.

Our first gig with Big Condo was back in March, and straight away we were discussing playing the Weekender. Being included so early on has meant a lot to us, and we’re genuinely excited to be part of it.

Q: Tell us about a song in your setlist that means the most to you, and why it stands out.

That’s a tough one because we each have personal favourites — especially since most of us have contributed to writing different songs in the set. But “I Don’t Wanna Say” holds a special place for all of us. It was the first song we ever played together, and it’s the one that audiences seem to connect with the most. Hearing people sing along, especially at our first gig, was surreal. That moment really stuck with us.

(But hey, come see us live and decide for yourself!)

Q: What do you hope new listeners take away from seeing you live at the Weekender?

If they remember our name — that’s a win!

But seriously, we just want people to have a great time, connect with the music, and maybe even feel something. If they leave wanting to see us again, we’ve done our job.

Q: Where do you see the band a year from now? Any big goals you’re aiming for?

We’ve got three new tracks and a live lounge-style video dropping this year, which we’re really proud of. We’re hoping to get more national radio play off the back of that. Gig-wise, we want to take things beyond Liverpool — play new cities, reach new ears, and ideally land some support slots with more established bands.

Big things ahead — watch this space.
