Ariana Grande was a musical guest on Saturday Night Live on March 9, and she was present with her ‘Wicked’ co-star Bowen Yang in a spoof of Moulin Rouge. The five-minute hilarious sketch began as a PBS Special that is based on the 2001 movie musical. Hosted by Mikey Day, this spoof examines what “Elephant Love Medley”, the movie musical would look like if the director Baz Luhrmann had been able to secure rights to the popular songs.

In the spoof, the ‘Yes, And?’ singer portrayed Nicole Kidman’s Satine, and her ‘Wicked’ costar Yang portrayed Ewan McGregor’s Christian. Together, they mashed Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus Take the Wheel” with the nursery rhyme “Wheels on the Bus”. They also comically performed snippets from classic hits including Jennifer Lopez’s “Waiting for Tonight”, TLC’s “Creep,” and Shania Twain’s “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!”. SNL episode’s host Josh Brolin also briefly joined the two to deliver spoken lines from the track “Lady Marmalade,” the film’s soundtrack by Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya, and P!nk. The skit ended with Grande and her Wicked costar Bowen belting out the “Defying Gravity” end riff from the upcoming musical.

Ariana Grande is set to appear in the upcoming live-action adaptations of the Broadway musical, ‘Wicked’ where she will play the role of the good witch Glinda beside the bad witch Elphabal, played by Cynthia Erivo. Yang will be seen in the role of Pfannee. In this Jon M. Chu-directed musical movie, Jonathan Bailey will play the character of FiyeroTigelaar, Ethan Slater will appear in the role ofBoq, and Michelle Yeoh in the character of Madame Morrible in the live-action movie.

As a musical guest, Ariana debuted live performances of two of her songs from the newest album ‘Eternal Sunshine’. This is Grande’s seventh studio album from where she performed “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” and closed the live performance with “Imperfect for You.” Apart from this, the ‘Thank U, Next‘ singer also appeared in another SNL sketch, which is about a support group for people pleasers. The musician has appeared on SNL twice before, once as a musical guest in 2014 September and another time, pulling double duty as both host and musical guest in 2016 March.

On Saturday evening, the songstress also announced the “slightly deluxe” version of Eternal Sunshine. This version features four additional soundtracks, “Supernatural (featuring Troye Sivan), “Imperfect for You” (acoustic), “True Story” (a capella), and “Yes, And?” (featuring Carey). The remix featuring Mariah Carey was out before, but the three others are brand-new gifts for Arianators.
