Olivia Rodrigo Finally Addressed ‘Pedophilia’ for People Criticizing Her Babydoll Dress

Pop star Olivia Rodrigo has finally become vocal about the criticism regarding her Babydoll dress, and it is fair to say that it was much needed. While the artist was simply inspired by the ‘90s pop stars like Courtney Love and Kathleen Hanna, she got criticized for wearing a child-like dress and sexualizing it. However, it is the vision of the eye of the beholder, and Rodrigo did not stutter when saying, “We really normalize pedophilia in our culture”.

In a recent performance for “Drop Dead” at Spotify’s Billions Club Live concert, Olivia wore the same kind of short frock-like dress, which was heavily criticized for infantilizing and sexualizing. In the recent New York Times Popcast, the artist revealed, “That’s been making me so upset,” and explained the reality of how people see these pop icons.

Rodrigo said, “Not even for me. People can say whatever they want. What’s really disturbing is I have worn outfits that are maybe revealing on stage. I’ve been on stage in a sparkly bra and little shorts, which is my right, that’s fun, I felt cool and comfortable in that.” But then, she also added, “And that wasn’t inappropriate, but me fully covered up in a dress that people deemed to be childlike was inappropriate.”

The pop star addressed the fact that these responses show, “how we really normalize pedophilia in our culture. Also, it’s just this rhetoric we’re fed as girls since we’re so little, which is, don’t wear that because then a man is going to sexualize your body, and it’s your fault. It’s so weird.” This is highly relatable to all women, and it showcases how patriarchy and pedophilia still slip through the creative music industry.

The artist also explained what inspired her by saying, “I didn’t think that I looked sexy in that at all,” and added, “I was like, this is so cool. I feel I look like Kathleen Hanna or Courtney Love, all these people who are my heroes, and I felt cool and comfortable in it.”

Addressing the real issue of the disturbed minds, she said, “I just think if we start dressing in a way that’s like, ‘I don’t want some fucking freak to think that I’m sexy like a baby’ or some crazy thing like that, I think it’s losing the plot a little bit. I’m just very protective of younger women, girls, and I don’t ever want them to be fed that rhetoric.”

Olivia Rodrigo is one of the youngest and most successful pop stars in the music industry, and she is standing up for women’s rights, and pedophilia is truly something fans should learn from. The fans are currently waiting for the release of “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love,” on June 12.
