Pepsi has withdrawn as the main sponsor of London’s Wireless Festival this summer, following mounting backlash after Kanye West was announced as the headline act. The rapper, now known as Ye, is set to perform across all three days of the event. This decision has reignited criticism tied to his past anti-Semitic remarks and public controversies. The move marks a major shift for the festival, which has long been closely tied to Pepsi branding. However, the situation has pushed both sponsors and organizers into a difficult position, where cultural influence and accountability are being weighed in real time.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer addressed the issue earlier, calling the booking “deeply concerning.” In comments first reported by the Sun on Sunday, he said West had been invited “despite his previous anti-Semitic remarks and celebration of Nazism.” He added, “Antisemitism in any form is abhorrent and must be confronted firmly wherever it appears,” and stressed that “Everyone has a responsibility to ensure Britain is a place where Jewish people feel safe.”

Pepsi is not the only company stepping back. Drinks giant Diageo has also withdrawn its support for the festival “as it stands.” Two of its major brands had previously been listed as partners, but their involvement now appears uncertain. A spokesperson confirmed, “We have informed the organizers of our concerns, and as it stands, Diageo will not sponsor the 2026 Wireless festival.” On the other hand, political reactions have continued to grow. Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey suggested the government should take stronger action, including blocking West from entering the UK. He described the situation as “extremely serious” and said, “We need to get tougher on antisemitism.” At present, the Home Office has not received any formal application from West to enter the country.

Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch also spoke out, saying, “We are seeing a huge increase in antisemitism all across the world, and we need to do everything we can to stop the rise in hatred of Jewish people.” She added, “That does mean not platforming people who make anti-Semitic statements or who put out anything that will incite violence and hatred towards Jews.” Reform UK leader Nigel Farage offered a blunt reaction, stating, “Personally, I wouldn’t buy a ticket.”

West’s past actions remain central to this backlash. He has faced criticism for controversial statements, including public praise for the Nazi ideology and merchandise featuring a swastika. Last year, the rapper was also blocked from entering Australia under similar concerns. He has since attempted to address the fallout. In November 2025, he met with Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto and reportedly apologized. He later issued a public apology in the Wall Street Journal, writing, “I am not a Nazi or an anti-Semite.” He explained that bipolar disorder meant when “you’re manic, you don’t think you’re sick” and said he had “lost touch with reality.” He added, “I regret and am deeply mortified by my actions in that state.”
