Taylor Swift received the National Music Publishers Association’s Songwriter Icon Award as an honor. The honor was given on Wednesday, June 9th at the trade organization’s annual membership meeting.

While presenting the award, NMPA President/CEO David Israelite praised her not only for musical creativity and songwriting skills but for being a true advocate for creators and royalty issues.

Taylor has plucked out her music for three years from Spotify which was an effective action that eventually improved its royalty system. She has also voiced against Apple Music for its policies regarding royalty for artists who are on trial subscriptions, and it was reversed.

However, the magical part of the event was Swift’s acceptance speech. It was followed by Sara Bareilles’s performance on Taylor’s 2014 anthem ‘Clean’. She also shared a touching story of how she met Taylor and couldn’t stop thanking her for her kindness; a true Swiftie.

With gratitude towards David for the introduction, Taylor expressed “I’m really, really honored to be receiving this award because it honors the part of my job that is so magical and mystical to me, still.”

She added, “I love songwriting so much because there’s an element to it that is still really mysterious — like I think any songwriter will tell you, when you get an idea you’re not quite sure where it floated down from, but if you can grab onto that idea and turn it into something, a piece of music”.

The artist showed her gratitude to everyone, saying, “I want to take a moment to thank the people who were my professors, my teachers, of the craft of songwriting.”

She thanked a bunch of people from the industry, her pen friends, and last but not the least, her very loving fans. She mentioned Liz Rose, Max Martin, Johan Shellback, Jack Antonoff, Aaron Dessner, Troy Tomlinson, and Jody Gerson who has been always supportive and motivating her with new creations.

Taylor ended her speech with immense respect to the amazing fellow songwriters as well the emerging writers in the industry.
