Sir Elton John is All Set to Release His New Collaboration Album ‘The Lockdown Sessions’

Sir Elton John

Sir Elton John announced the upcoming release of his album, ‘The Lockdown Sessions’ which is set to hit the stands on October 22. It is going to be a series in collaboration with a diverse stream of artists from different backgrounds. The collaboration artists featuring in the album include Miley Cyrus, Dua Lipa, Eddie Vedder, Charlie Puth, Lil Nas X, Stevie Wonder, Gorillaz, Young Thug, Stevie Nicks, and Nicki Minaj. These include some of the musicians that he met during the Rocket Hour music show held by Apple music. The musicians have been working together on the upcoming LP for the last 18 months spanning the pandemic.

The lead single of the album is called ‘Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)’ featuring artist Dua Lipa. The song has already been released giving the audience a peek into what to expect. The track is a creative combination of some of Elton John’s most famous tracks, ‘Sacrifice’ from 1989, ‘Rocket Man’ from 1972, ‘Where’s The Shoorah?’ from 1976, and ‘Kiss The Bride’ from 1983.

In a statement, Elton John said, “The last thing I expected to do during lockdown was make an album. But, as the pandemic went on, one‐off projects kept cropping up. Some of the recording sessions had to be done remotely, via Zoom, which I’d obviously never done before. Some of the sessions were recorded under very stringent safety regulations: working with another artist, but separated by glass screens.”

He continued to say, “But all the tracks I worked on were really interesting and diverse, stuff that was completely different to anything I’m known for, stuff that took me out of my comfort zone into completely new territory. And I realized there was something weirdly familiar about working like this. At the start of my career, in the late 60s, I worked as a session musician. Working with different artists during lockdown reminded me of that. I’d come full circle: I was a session musician again. And it was still a blast.”

Elton John was during his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour when the pandemic was announced. The new album is highly anticipated by the audience. Watch out for its release on October 22.
