Mumbai witnessed something truly special at Haazri2026, where music became more than a performance and turned into an evening of shared remembrance and gratitude. Held at a packed Jio World Garden in BKC, the event unfolded as a living tribute to Padma Vibhushan Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan. It brought together his celebrated students and some of the most revered voices in Indian music on one stage, for the first time ever. What made the night unforgettable was not the star power alone, but the emotion behind it. A.R. Rahman, Hariharan, Sonu Nigam, and Shaan came together not as icons, but as shaagirds offering their haazri to their beloved Ustad on his fifth barsi.

The evening was thoughtfully curated by Namrata Gupta Khan and Rabbani Mustafa Khan, UstadSahab’s daughter-in-law and son, who have continued to carry his legacy forward through their work with NR Talent and Event Management. Their quiet dedication was reflected in every detail of the night, creating a space that felt intimate despite the scale and deeply rooted in remembrance and music.

A.R. Rahman opened the concert with a stirring Sufi set that instantly shifted the energy in the venue. Songs like ‘Kun Faya Kun’, ‘Khwaja Mere Khwaja’, and ‘Arziyan’ turned the atmosphere reflective and devotional, before he was joined by the Mustafa brothers Qadir Mustafa, Murtuza Mustafa, and Rabbani Mustafa, along with UstadSahab’s grandsons Faiz Mustafa and Zain Mustafa. Together, they delivered moving renditions of ‘AaoBalma’ and ‘Piya Haji Ali’. These were moments that felt suspended in time and soaked in reverence.

Shaan followed with warmth and nostalgia, lifting the mood with crowd favourites like ‘Main Hoon Don’, ‘Chand Sifarish’, and ‘Om Shanti Om’, before offering a heartfelt rendition of Khan Sahab’sghazal ‘ChaleAao’, which drew quiet emotion across the venue. Hariharan then took over with classics that have shaped generations, including ‘Tu Hi Re’, ‘Roja’, ‘BahonKeDarmiyan’, and ‘Yaadein’, each met with roaring applause and visible emotion from the audience. Sonu Nigam closed the musical journey with an intensely moving set featuring ‘Pardesiya’, ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’, ‘AbhiMujh Mein Kahin’, and ‘SandeseAate Hain’, leaving many in the crowd misty-eyed and deeply stirred.

The night also saw the presence of several prominent faces from cinema, culture, and music, including Smita Thackeray, Babil Khan with SutapaSikdar, Shefali Shah, Ronit Bose Roy with Neelam Bose Roy, KritikaKamra, AdarshGourav, Kavita Seth with son Kanishk, Neha Dhupia, Vishal Jethwa, Akshay Oberoi with his family, Shweta Tripathi, Javed Jaffrey, RakeyshOmprakashMehra, and many others. In one of the most touching moments of the evening, UstadSahab’s family came on stage to felicitate the legendary performers. They closed the night on a note of deep gratitude. As the final notes faded, one truth lingered in the air: legacies never really end. They live on through students, through music, and through nights like Haazri 2026.
