Shannon K Returns with “Not My Shade,” Entering a New Era of Indian-American Pop

Indian-American Pop star Shannon K makes a comeback with a brand-new single, “Not My Shade,” with a fine taste of modern pop. This release marks a new era in her music journey, which comes with strong energy and captivating pop instincts. The singer is already known for contributing her voice to Bollywood tracks, but her edgy pop era started long back.

While talking about the latest release, Shannon K said, “‘Not My Shade’ is about that moment when you just know the truth. It’s playful, a little savage, but also empowering. I want it to make people feel confident and know their worth”. It is safe to say the song reflects a fair share of the artist and her unwavering mindset.

Shannon K is the daughter of Kumar Sanu, the legend of the Indian music industry. Her origin and Indian background were never an obstacle but rather a creative push in her musical journey that goes beyond language and regions. Talking about her dad’s influence, the artist said, “I definitely take my dad’s advice on my music, especially when it comes to Hindi songs. He’s my first guru, so his opinion means a lot to me.“

She further added, “I often play my songs for him and ask for his suggestions on Hindi pronunciation, feel and how to emote and approach a song. Also Himesh Reshammiya Sir helped me in pronunciation a lot as he gave me my first chance to sing in Hindi.”

However, “Not My Shade” offers an English approach in an American pop style, which Shannon can swiftly blend in. She said, “But when it comes to English music, it’s my ideas and creation. From composing melodies and songwriting to the way I express myself, I like to have that creative freedom.” With unbridled confidence, she said, “I just have to be the best version of myself and I’m following his advice.”

Shannon K is working on Hindi songs in Bollywood and international projects in English at the same time. She is already preparing to work on multiple tracks as upcoming projects include “one Hindi song with Altamash Faridi, one is with Ash King, one is with Mika Singh,“ she said. She will be working on a “couple of English songs as well.”
