The world is still gulping the down the fact that AI is taking over in all the major fields. And the music industry has not been immune to this as well. The world has already seen some AI-made tracks; it not just making songs it is also recreating the vocal parts of leading music artists. And there has been true havoc along with eclectic opinions regarding this topic. Some are saying that AI-generated tracks should be banned from the industry and that everyone should take this step to stop this. While some people are saying everyone has their creative expression so why AI-generated tracks should be banned from this? And Grammy is willing to listen to both opinions and take steps accordingly.

But recently, headlines are made when Grammy’s CEO Harvey Mason Jr. confessed that “This Is Something We Have to Pay Attention To” and he himself has used AI to create his tracks. But Grammy is not willing to award a robot for its creative expression. The CEO said, “We will not be awarding a Grammy to AI,” adding to this, “If you’re awarding a Grammy to AI, I would be uncomfortable or even curious to know who we’re going to give the Grammy too. So for now, we’re going to … give the Grammy to the human side of the creativity.”

The crux of this matter is Grammy authority is willing to honor the music, despite the fact that the song has been created by an AI. Grammy is all about honoring and celebrating music. And they will continue to do so, even if the track is made by a robot. Yet, he also shade light on the fact that the Grammy will not support a completely AI-made number but if the song is partially made with AI then it can consider a valid Grammy nomination. One of the Grammy executives said, “You can win a Grammy for the human portion of the track.”

Mason Jr. became the interim Academy CEO in 2020 and earned this official title in 2021. He is one of the most popular Grammy-nominated songwriter-producer who has worked with several artists like Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Aretha Franklin, Justin Bieber, Toni Braxton, Chris Brown, and others. Now he has broken down the Academy’s stance on AI.
