Nicki Minaj

The 40-year-old rapper has broken the record of Missy Elliott as she became the longest-charting female rapper on Billboard Hot 100. Most No. 1s on R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song sales

With the release of ‘Last Time I Saw You’, Nicki Minaj breaks the record of having the most number 1s on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital song sales chart. She suppressed Canadian rapper Drake by scoring her 25th chart-topper on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Simultaneously, the rapper also landed her fifth top 10 debut on the same charts, giving her a historic mark on the genre’s sales chart.

The relationship with Grammys

The Queen of Rap is not only commercially successful but has inspired several artists throughout their lives. She inspired several talents regardless of their genre to come forward and pursue rao music as a career. Despite her success along with her invaluable and undeniable influence, she has never won any Grammy, music’s biggest honor.

Nicki Minaj

Throughout her career, she has released several blockbuster hits and songs that should have won the rapper countless awards, including Grammys. She also has some of the best musical crafts of all time, arguably, making her a worthy lyricist. Her not winning even one Grammy has fueled the audience to go against the awards, and the rapper herself fought with them publicly. Her beef with the Grammys started years ago, which might be the reason she never won an award, nor will she even win.

It all started during her 2012 Grammy performance where she took the stage at the 54th annual ceremony. She performed “Roman Holiday”, a fan-favorite, and a massive hit of that time. However, the performance sparked some controversies, especially as it displayed ruffled feathers that depicted an exorcism. Now this would not have been a big deal if the timing was right, but it was just days after the death of the great Whitney Houston. According to the artist, the team at the Grammys wanted her to cancel the performance partly due to Whitney’s passing along with the controversy it could cause. It was especially Ken Erhlich who Nicki said wanted her to cancel because it could upset catholic churches. So it did as The Catholic League issued a statement showing their dissatisfaction. Later while discussing Minaj’s performance, the Grammys said it to be ‘Disappointing’.

This long-buried drama was recently brought up when a fan asked Nicki why she never won a Grammy, to which the superstar replied that she was bullied by the Grammys and by Ken in particular. She also explained why did not call off the performance saying that she worked really hard and her fans were excited to see her performing. If fans thought that this apparent beef had ended, her most successful song ‘Super Freaky Girl’ was moved from the category of rap to pop. showing her disappointment once again, the multi-talented rapper wrote on Twitter, “I have no prob being moved out the RAP category as long as we r ALL being treated FAIRLY. If SFG has 2B moved out RAP then so does Big Energy! ANY1 who says diff is simply a Nicki hater or a troll. I’d actually LUV 2 c a more street record win- male OR female! IJS rightIsRight 🫡”.
