1. Tell us something about yourself and your music in general.

Ans. Hi, my name is J.Á.H aka Josh Hanrahan and I’m currently driving a delivery truck to earn a steady income. Music has always been a big part of me, the pinnacle of my passions and career desires. When I was about 10-11, I started to sing quite bit on my own in my room and at about 12-13 I started to take it seriously on my own.

2. Tell us about your upcoming performance at the Loop Project Space and Bar, Melbourne, AU on July 29th.

Ans. I will be performing at the “Twilight Sessions” this time, and he show is on the21st of August, but basically, it’s a new thing that has started in my hometown “Mornington” promoted by some really close friends. On the night I’ll be performing 3 of my own songs and then performing for the rest of the night with rapper “2syllable”with songs that we’re currently working on.

3. Why did you choose ‘Earned It’ by The Weeknd? Is there any special reason behind it? And for how long have you been planning it?

Ans. No real special reason, I just find the song very captivating and still do from the day he first released it and I’ve always kinda wanted to do my own rendition.

4. How do you think your cover is going to be different from the original one? What is so special about your rendition?

Ans. It’s much slower right off the bat, you can tell. It has this soothing feeling to it and yet it’s still very sensual in some ways. It also has a very raw vibe to it; you can hear in the vocals that it isn’t pitch perfect and it’s not heavily auto tuned and yet I still hit the notes in where they need to be hit. We basically wanted this to feel like I’m in a room singing to one person and I think I recaptured that quite well.

5. Do you plan to do only R&B music or want to widen your spectrum with other genres as well?

Ans. I will most DEFINITELY be widening my music taste, but I won’t stray too far away from R&B.

6. Do you only sing covers and what motivates you to sing them?

Ans. No, but if I like a song and it feels good then I’ll sing it/cover it.

7. When did you first start singing? And for how long have you been doing it professionally?

Ans. About 11, and I can’t say I’m professional, but I’ve been singing for about decade now.

8. Do you have any formal training in singing? Do you play any instrument?

Ans. I have had vocal coaching in the pastand I do remember when I was taught by this one lady who discontinued the lessons because she didn’t want to change my voice as I progressed. So, I just took that as a compliment haha. In primary school I played a little bit of the trumpet but didn’t stick to it for too long. But I have always picked up the guitar and developed my own little knack, I’m not amazing but with time and preparation I could give you a song or two hahah.

9. Which musicians are your inspirations and how do you embed their influences in your work?

Ans. I don’t really embed any musicians/artist into my work, but to the artists that inspire, first off it would have to be Michael Jackson, Drake, BrunoMars, Justin Bieber and J. Cole

10. Are you working independently or under a production house or record label?

Ans. I’m working with an independent label called “Morgan House Records” based in LA, they have helped in more ways than could ever ask. They really believe in me, and I owe all to them, except for my singing, they didn’t teach me shit that was all me hahahah. All love though.

11. What are your plans for the future? Are you working on any new project?

Ans. I recorded a number of tracks in LA with a great producer and we will start to release over the next 2 months As of right now, just focusing on the show and getting ready to release this rendition music video. But for my first single release that is the next to come and follow shortly after all of this is done.

12. What message would you like to give to your contemporaries and the newcomers regarding music?

Ans. Speak to yourself, ask within, and recognize what you love and what you feel. Then just go with it and don’t stop.
