Hallaballoo

DMR: Hello, Hallaballoo, you have attracted global audiences with your exceptional music creations. How did it all start?

Hallaballoo: Hallaballoo began in the early 2000s as a loose collective of friends in the Minneapolis suburbs who simply loved playing music together. At first it was basement rehearsals and small local shows, but the chemistry between the musicians kept drawing us back. Over time those jams turned into gigs, the gigs turned into tours, and eventually the project grew into the collaborative band people know today.

DMR: How did you come up with the idea of building this band?

Hallaballoo: There wasn’t a grand plan at the beginning. It grew organically out of musicians wanting to explore ideas together without strict boundaries. As more players joined and contributed their own influences, we realized the strength of the band was its collective approach. Everyone brings something different to the table, and that’s what shaped Hallaballoo.

DMR: What has been your inspiration behind this band?

Hallaballoo: A big inspiration has always been the thrill of musical discovery. We’re inspired by bands that balance improvisation and songwriting—artists who let songs breathe and evolve. Recording in legendary studios and collaborating with different musicians has also played a huge role in shaping our sound and pushing us creatively.

DMR: You have worked with many genres in your career. What has been the experience of it?

Hallaballoo: It’s been incredibly freeing. We’ve never wanted to be boxed into one genre. Our music pulls from rock, funk, psychedelic sounds, indie influences, and jam-band improvisation. Exploring different styles keeps the creative process exciting and allows each song to find its own identity.

DMR: How would you like to describe your music-making journey?

Hallaballoo: It’s been a long, evolving journey built on collaboration and curiosity. Over the years we’ve played hundreds of shows, recorded in incredible studios, and worked with talented musicians and producers. The band has grown alongside our experiences, and every album represents a new chapter in that journey.

DMR: You are coming up with your fourth music album, named ‘Gravity’. What is the inspiration behind this album?

Hallaballoo: Gravity is really the culmination of everything we’ve learned as a band over the past two decades. Recording the album at Pachyderm Studios gave the project a unique atmosphere and energy. Being in a room where so many iconic records were made pushes you to raise your level as musicians.

DMR: What can your listeners expect from this music album?

Hallaballoo: Listeners can expect a blend of psychedelic rock textures, groove-driven rhythms, and melodic songwriting. There’s a lot of depth in the arrangements, and we experimented with collaborations and different sonic ideas. At its core, though, the album still captures the live energy that defines Hallaballoo.

DMR: What are the perceptions of the songs in this album?

Hallaballoo: Each song explores a different emotional and musical space. Some tracks lean toward expansive jam moments, while others focus on strong melodies and storytelling. The common thread is authenticity—every song reflects a real moment of collaboration and musical chemistry.

DMR: When are you going to release this latest music creation?

Hallaballoo: Gravity is scheduled for release in Summer 2026. Leading up to the album, we’ve been releasing singles to give listeners a glimpse into the sound and direction of the record.

DMR: Are you planning any upcoming shows or concerts?

Hallaballoo: The past couple of years have been focused heavily on writing and recording, but we’re excited to bring the new material to the stage soon. We’re planning to return to live performances and touring beginning in 2027.

DMR: What are you planning to do next?

Hallaballoo: We’re continuing to write new material and collaborate with different musicians, vocalists, and engineers.

DMR: Is there any message you would like to give to your fans?

Hallaballoo: We’re incredibly grateful for everyone who has supported the band over the years. Whether you discovered us recently or have been listening since the early days, the music only exists because people connect with it. Keep listening, keep sharing the music, and we can’t wait to see everyone out at shows again soon.

Thank you so much for taking out your time for us. All the very best for your future endeavors.
