Pretty Shoota

Hello Pretty Shoota! Congratulations on the release of your first mixtape ‘PS Vol 1’. Thank you for giving us some time of your busy schedule to do this interview.

Daily Music Roll: Tell us a few things about yourself and your music?

Pretty Shoota: I am 26 years old; a welder by trade. I feel like my music is a direct reflection of my personality mixed with life experiences.

DMR: Where are you from and how popular are you in your area?

Pretty Shoota: I am from Cleveland, TN and my area is really like a crab in a barrel mentality. So many people are trying to make it out, and they have tunnel vision and so there is a lot of hate. When in reality if we all come together and push each other it would bring about a different wave that could boost everyone.

DMR: What is the most unique thing about your debut mixtape PS Vol 1?

Pretty Shoota: I mean it’s real life. Everything that’s on it has either happened or I’ve been through it. There’s no fakeness here. You won’t see me out here buying a bunch of chains, but still living with my momma or not having anything else to my name but these chains.

DMR: What inspired you to come up with a brand new mixtape?

Pretty Shoota: Right now I am just getting started. I am building on a career. I have learned so much over the past year. I released a few tracks almost exactly a year ago and here I am releasing a new project, but with a new and different sound. Still some of the old, but some new too. An evolution. That is my goal. To learn as much as possible to keep growing my knowledge wealth, but to also understand that this is a business and that will keep you on your toes as well.

DMR: Can you describe your rhyming style and tell us how to distinguish it from other contemporary artists?

Pretty Shoota: I feel like I’ve developed my own style. I don’t think I sound like anybody. That’s the key to being different. It’s to be different and stand out.

DMR: What motivated you to express yourself through the means of music?

Pretty Shoota: Music has always gotten me through tough times. Whenever I first started writing music I was in a group home and that was kind of therapy for me and just sharing that with the other kids in the group home made me feel like it helped everyone in a different way. That’s what I do now. Now I’m just expressing my emotions and telling my story.

DMR: What message would you like to convey through the tracks of the mixtape?

Pretty Shoota: Keep it 100. That’s honestly the bottom line. You don’t have to pretend to be someone you’re not. If you’re not really about that life then don’t talk about it. Watch what you say. What you say can’t be taken back. Words can get you hurt.

DMR: Are you an independent artist or are you working under a production house right now?

Pretty Shoota: No, I’m an independent artist at the moment. I am just trying to get my feet wet in the industry.

DMR: What advice would you like to give to the newcomers of the genre?

Pretty Shoota: Be consistent and don’t quit. Don’t look for immediate gratification. This is a business and you can’t expect an isn’t ROI most take years.

DMR: Which musical artists inspired you to start rapping?

Pretty Shoota: Man, really it would have to be a top 5. That’s as little as I can name. Jay-Z, Tupac, JCole, NAS, Eminem.

DMR: Do you plan to release any visuals for the tracks in the future?

Pretty Shoota: Yes, I am working on visuals for The Intro right now.

DMR: Are you currently working on any other musical projects?

Pretty Shoota: Yea, I’ve got something special coming to Valentine’s Day, and then I will have my first full album come out in March.
