How You Like That

It’s never a bad moment to get completely trampled all over by the women of Blackpink. The four queens — Lisa, Jisoo, Rosé, and Jennie — released their first song since just after the Kill This Love, “How You Like That,” on Friday, June 26 for their American fans. But, really, who needs coffee when they’re providing us with life like this? “How do you like it?” they inquire, despite the fact that it makes no difference. “You’re going to enjoy that!” The video follows the women through a series of fairy-like, ethereal, out-of-this-world settings until they wear their scammin’ outfits (sequined shorts, a huge fur coat, and dripping diamonds) and start dancing.

With 1.65 million ongoing views, the video has already smashed YouTube’s premiere record. Blackpink’s hairstyle specialists aren’t putting in extra hours for anything. “How You Like That” is the first single from their debut full-length album, which will be released in September after their second single in August. The girls were already occupied and bustling since their comeback from vacation, with a reality series and a duet with Lady Gaga, “Sour Candy.” There’s a lot more glitz (and maybe more rapper Lisa) to come.

In the video, the K-pop girl gang runs through the intricate choreography from the wispy track’s music video, dressed in identical black athleisure outfits on a light pink setting. “What’s up, I’m right back/ Trigger the cock back/ Plain Jane gets hijacked, don’t like me?/ Then tell me, how you like that, like that?” Lisa mumbles on the second stanza while she, Rosé, Jisoo, and Jennie bob, bounce, and dance to the music.

Last night on The Tonight Show, Blackpink resumed their push of “How You Like That” with a literally blazing live performance of the track including the iconic choreography from the music video. They not only nailed the complicated routines, but they also pulled out a slew of dancers to replicate the dramatic dance breakdown from the music video. Later, Lisa, Jisoo, Rosé, and Jennie appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s Try Not to Laugh Challenge via video chat. “We are enormous fans,” Fallon stated in his introduction, raising the question: is Jimmy Fallon a hidden K-pop fan? Almost certainly.
