Kanye West Declares “We Just Broke the Record’ in Istanbul Show

Rapper and music producer Kanye West still seems to be reigning in his prime, regardless of his notoriety. The artist has recently performed in Istanbul, and he declared, “We Just Broke the Record’ which is not a bluff at all. West has successfully gathered more than 118,000 people at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, and this epic feat has set a new record in the industry.

The show took place on Saturday, May 30, and it was the largest stadium performance in history, according to the rapper. West took a moment to make an announcement where he told the audience, “I just want to tell y’all, we just broke the record, 118,000, largest stadium performance of all time.”

This special music gig by West started at 9 p.m. local time, and it slowly transitioned into the biggest celebration of a musical night along with live DJ sets, light and laser shows, as well as pre- and post–show gatherings and parties. There were also many Turkish artists at the show, including Sena Sener, Mavi, Yener Cevik, Pera, and Motive, who glorified the event with their creative contributions.

The music concert was also attended by international fans, including people from other countries like the UK, USA, Russia, Kazakhstan, Germany, and Poland. With a long queue of people, the organizers at the show opened the gate of the stadium at 3 pm in local time so that there would be no rush during the show. The anticipation and excitement went even higher when Travis Scott also joined Kanye during his set.

This also marks the first European music tour by Kanye West in 11 years, and the Istanbul show is the first show that kicked off the tour with a massive buzz and success. Previously, the rapper was denied to perform in many countries, including the United Kingdom, which claimed that West’s presence “would not be conducive to the public good,” and that is why his Wireless Festival in England was cancelled, and Ye ended up losing some heavy sponsors, including Diageo and PepsiCo. Similarly, his shows in Switzerland and Poland were also cancelled.

On the day of Ye’s massive Istanbul concert, Italy banned Went and Travis Scott from performing at the RCF Arena in Reggio Emilia, where around 103,000 people can enjoy the show. But the show in July was cancelled due to addressing the security concerns and multiple requests from the Jewish communities and consumer group CODACONS.

Although Kanye shared his deep apologies for antisemitic statements, the rapper is still banned from performing in many European countries. However, there are some countries that allowed his presence, including the Netherlands, Albania, Georgia, and Spain, and other shows are scheduled to take place soon.
