Power Trip has officially marked their return with their first new music since the death of former frontman Riley Gale in 2020. The Texas thrash-metal band has released a double single featuring ‘Precinct 3’ and ‘Scavenger’ through Blue Grape. This offers fans their first taste of new material since the loss of the vocalist who played a defining role in their sound and identity. The release also sets the stage for a new Power Trip album, expected to arrive next spring, according to a press release.
The two tracks signal an important moment for the group as they move forward while continuing to honor Gale’s legacy. ‘Precinct 3’ arrives with an accompanying music video directed by Eric Richter. Both songs introduce the next chapter of Power Trip. It keeps their thrash-metal roots at the center while allowing the band to move ahead after years of uncertainty following Gale’s passing.
Power Trip began their reunion journey in late 2023, bringing vocalist Seth Gilmore into the lineup. A longtime friend of the band, Gilmore is known for his work with Skourge and Fugitive. His arrival has given the group a way to continue performing and creating music while acknowledging the irreplaceable place Gale holds in their history. Taking on the role of frontman under these circumstances is a significant responsibility, particularly for a band whose identity was closely associated with its original vocalist.
The new tracks were produced by Jacob Hansen, with founding guitarist Blake Ibanez also co-producing the material. Ibanez has explained that the writing process involved reflecting on what Gale might have wanted to express through the band’s music. “When we were writing this, we wondered what Riley would have wanted to write about. So once we decided on that approach, it honestly came really easily—the lyrics were flowing, and it just felt like the right way to kick off this new chapter and honor him. I think he would have been stoked to see it come to fruition.”
Ibanez’s words offer a glimpse into the personal considerations behind the release. Rather than treating the new music as a straightforward comeback, Power Trip approached the material with Gale’s creative spirit in mind, finding a way to connect their past with the music they are making today. That intention gives ‘Precinct 3’ and ‘Scavenger’ added significance as the band prepares to return with a full-length album.
For the fans who have followed Power Trip through their rise and difficult years after Gale’s death, the double singer represents a long-awaited development. The group now has new material to share and a full album on the horizon. This makes this release an important step in their ongoing story. With Gilmore at the microphone and the band carrying forward the musical foundation they built with Gale, Power Trip is opening a new chapter.
