Spotify is taking another major step toward transparency in this AI music landscape. The music streaming platform has announced that a new ‘AI Persona’ label for artist profiles will be given to identify AI-generated or primarily represent synthetic artist identities. As of now, according to their announcement, the new system will roll out in mid-September 2026.
Recently, AI-generated music and virtual performances have become quite common on every streaming platform. AI has definitely helped artists to produce a new kind of music, but there are a few problems as well. Now, it has become really hard for listeners to identify fictional artists and real music artists. While listening to songs, they cannot understand whether the artist represents a real human performer or not. With the help of Spotify’s new feature, everyone will be able to make a distinction.

Spotify will introduce an ‘AI Persona’ badge for AI-generated artist profiles. This will allow artists to identify them right away. The streaming site will use human review supported by AI tools to investigate profiles that appear to be AI-generated. In addition to that, it is also known that creators and artists will be able to identify themselves voluntarily, and listeners will be able to flag profiles that they believe should be reviewed. This new change can help to identify real artists in a much easier manner.
Spotify is focusing more on identifying the artists rather than simply looking for whether AI was used to make the music or not. Thus, artists who use AI as a part of their songwriting, vocals, and production will not be affected. Such profiles will not be automatically classified as AI personas. Currently, there are many tools that help artists to produce music in a much more hassle-free way. Spotify has also introduced and allowed artists to disclose AI contributions in their song credits. So, it is not going to be a problem who partially take help from such tools.

Spotify is trying to give a better listening experience to the audience. They are taking different approaches because if there are any songs from profiles carrying the AI label, they will not include them in Spotify’s editorial playlists. In addition to that, they will not personally recommend such songs to the listeners. Otherwise, it will be a new barrier for genuine artists to gain recognition in the music industry.
In April, they introduced the ‘Verified by Spotify’ badge for artist profiles to fulfil authenticity criteria. Such artists get the chance to approach more audiences and gain more recognition. This is also an initiative that will help artists to flourish in their careers. This initiative has been taken to keep a balance between innovation and authenticity at the same time in the music industry.
