Arijit Singh Taught Punjabi to Ed Sheeran for ‘Sapphire’

The phenomenal pop music artist, Ed Sheeran, teamed up with the legendary Bollywood artist, Arijit Singh, for the song ‘Sapphire’. The soundtrack is a vibrant summer music, which has captivated a large number of audience. It can be said that ‘Sapphire’ is a cross-cultural song where listeners get to experience a blend of English, Hindi, and Punjabi lyricism. The eclectic presentation has generated a spark among all. This song represents love, connection, and diversity. It is the unique essence that has led to garnering a massive audience.

Both the original and remix versions of the song have gotten huge appreciation from all. The song was recorded in Goa during the studio sessions. It can be said that Sheeran is exploring music from different parts of the world. As he dropped the remix version of ‘Sapphire’ with Arijit Singh, it surprised all listeners. Sheeran found singing in Hindi and Punjabi that no one ever expected.

The making of the track was quite interesting. Sheeran shared his experience collaborating with Arijit for this song. He visited Arijit’s hometown, Jiaganj Azimganj in West Bengal. he stated ‘One of my fav experiences ever in my career was going to Jiaganj Azimganj with my dad to go and see @arijitsingh for the final jigsaw piece of Sapphire. It was a 24 hour trip, and felt like a pilgrimage of music. After a 5 and a half hour drive when we landed, we arrived, Arijit took us on a boat to see the sights. Talked, ate, drunk coffee. Then once we were in the studio he taught me how to sing in Punjabi, and a bit of Sitar’.

Ed Sheeran also said ‘We then went on a late night scooty ride, with me on the back of Arijits bike and my dad on the back of his securities. We listened to prayer by the river and talked about music. It was honestly one of the most amazing days in my musical career, and was the ending of a beautiful journey of this song, but beginning of something bigger. I love this version of the song, its the one I listen to every morning with my daughters, because I love Arijits voice, tone, flow and rhythm. I hope you feel the same way i do about it.
