It seems like Olivia Rodrigo is bringing back the era of pop-rock with her latest powerful performance at the Governors Ball 2025 in NYC. Her performance defied heavy rain.

Although the weekend in NYC witnessed a heavy downpour, the festival doors finally opened at 4:30 p.m. and many -sets were cut after, shortened, or pushed to the edge. Olivia Rodrigo’s set was pushed from 8:30 p.m. to 9:25 p.m. but that did not stop the artist from performing a hefty set full of energy. She came up on stage in a sparkly red two-piece and was ready to set the stage ablaze. Sometimes she was singing, sometimes dancing, playing guitar, or the piano, jumping around; she was literally all over the stage at the moment of the night when audiences couldn’t expect any more.

There were many special movements in Olivia’s set and one of the best was when she introduced David Bryne, the rock legend with a duet performance of “Burning Down the House” by Talking Heads. She also gave a shout-out to her fellow artist and friend Conan Gray saying, “I love him so much, he’s my best friend,” and then she performed the track “enough for you” which is probably one of her favorite tracks. It has also become a GUTS tour tradition where all the fans Rodrigo make primal screams to match the energy of the track and that tradition followed at the NYC festival as well. Rodrigo said, “When I tell you ‘go,’ I want you to scream as loud as you can and let it all out. Okay? I want them to hear us in f—ing Manhattan.”
The artist has also addressed geo-politics with a subtle reference “There is so much s—t to be pissed off about in the world today,” and it is true. In a nutshell, Olivia Rodrigo is being a role-model with her pop-rock prowess.
