The nominations for the Latin Grammy Awards 2023 were announced on Tuesday, September 19th. The Mexican American music producer and songwriter Edgar Barrera became the highest nominated artist for this year’s awards with a total of 13 nominations. Barrera is closely followed by Karol G, Shakira, and Camilo as they each received seven nominations. Barrera is known for his famous work with superstars like Madonna, Peso Pluma, Karol G, Shakira, GrupoFrontera, etc. he is nominated for Best Pop Song, record, album, songwriter, and Producer of the Year, along with two nominations in the category of song of the year. In addition to that, he received three more nominations in the categories of Best Regional Song and Best Tropical Song.

Karol G, Camilo, and Shakira are among the collaborators who have previously worked with the songwriter-producer and have received seven nominations each. In this list of seven nominations, another two additions are Kevyn Mauricio Cruz Moreno, the Columbian songwriter who is known for his work under the moniker Keityn. Announced on Tuesday via live stream, Bizarrap, the Argentine record producer who is famous for his Bzrp Music Sessions has gotten six nominations this year. In the category of songwriter of the year, the other nominees are Felipe González Abad, Manuel Lorente Freire, Horacio Palencia, Elena Rose along with Barrera and Moreno. This is the first of the three new categories in this year’s Latin Grammys, alongside two other categories – best singer-songwriter song and best Portuguese-language urban performance.

This year’s nominations had big surprises, two regional Mexican songs were nominated for the top category song of the year, for the first time. These two are – EslabonArmado and Peso Pluma’s ‘Ella Baila Sola’ and GrupoFrontera and Bad Bunny’s ‘Un x100to’. However, along with the surprises, some snubs did not sit well with the listeners. The biggest disheartening moment was for the record-breaking artist Peso Pluma, who shortly after debuting became Mexico’s biggest musical star. After entering 21 songs on the chart of Billboard Hot 100 this year, the artist was snubbed from the category of Best New Artist. Even though he was nominated in two categories, in Best Regional Song with ‘Ella Baila Sola’ and Song of the Year, he would not get an award if the song wins, as it will go to the songwriter.

The 24th annual Latin Grammy Awards will be held on Nov. 16 in Sevilla, Spain which will be broadcast live on Univision.
