Lollapalooza is one of the most iconic music festivals in the world and it is finally coming to India. Variety reports that the festival will take place in Mumbai, India for two days: January 28 and 29 in 2023. Currently, the music festival has been held in seven countries annually the US, Brazil, Germany, Sweden, Chile, France, and Argentina.
Lollapalooza is a multi-genre music festival that started in 1991 in Chicago. It was originally held as the farewell tour of the 1980s alt-rock band, Jane’s Addiction. It is extremely popular among global music lovers where art, fashion, and food come to perfect harmony.
The festival has finally come to Asia and will be debuting in one of India’s biggest cities Mumbai which is known for being the house of one of the biggest entertainment industries in the world. The lineup for the event in Mumbai will be announced in the next few months. Both local and international artists from various genres such as pop, hip hop, EDM, rock, metal, and more will be performing at the music festival.
The fans can expect, ‘a full two days of music across four stages as well as innovative culinary selections, art, fashion, and more,’ said the founder of Lollapalooza, Perry Farrell in an announcement, via Variety. He further added, ‘The music of India is transcendental, it draws our spirits East. Lollapalooza is an instrument for unity, peace, and education utilizing the universal languages of music and art to find common ground.’
The CEO of BookMyShow is extremely excited about the event coming to India. He said, ‘Lollapalooza is not just a multi-genre music festival, but an alternative music experience, having driven an entire generation of alternative rock music and the grunge movement into mainstream sound.’ BookMyShow has partnered with the global producer of the festival’s Indian edition. He also said, ‘Some of the biggest names like ‘Pearl Jam’ ‘Red Hot Chili Peppers’, ‘Nine Inch Nails’, ‘Rage Against The Machine’ were brought to the world stage through their early performances at Lollapalooza,’ in his media release.
The organizers still have not revealed the venue for Lollapalooza in Mumbai. The event is expected to have four stages with more than 20 hours of live music. It will welcome more than 60,000 visitors each day. The pre-registered users will be able to book their tickets from August 1st, 2022. The price for the tickets is ₹7,000 and upwards each.
